Overview
Wine and the high Caucasus, in nine days. This private tour pairs Georgia's big mountains with its oldest wine region, run from three easy bases so the driving stays manageable.
You settle into Tbilisi first, with a city day and a run out to the UNESCO churches of Mtskheta and the Ananuri fortress. Then it's north into the Caucasus for three nights at Kazbegi — the church at Gergeti, the Gudauri viewpoints, the Truso valley — before turning to Kakheti for the wine: tastings, the hill town of Sighnaghi, Telavi and the great Alaverdi cathedral.
The wine is the other half of the trip. Georgians have made it in buried clay qvevri for around 8,000 years, and in Kakheti you taste it where it's made, in a landscape of vineyards under the mountains.
A free day back in Tbilisi rounds it off. One or two days carry some real driving, but each leg lands somewhere different — and because it's private, the pace and the stops bend around you.
Itinerary
Your driver meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel to settle in. There's nothing on the schedule beyond a warm welcome and a short briefing — and if your flight lands early, time for a first wander through the streets nearby. An easy start before the days ahead.
A day on foot through old Tbilisi. You'll climb to the Narikala fortress for the view across the rooftops, stop at the clifftop Metekhi church above the river, and wind through the cobbled lanes where old churches and balconied houses sit next to newer landmarks. It's an easy introduction to how the city fits together, ahead of the road trips to come.

- Visit ancient Narikala Fortress;
- See historic Metekhi Church;
- Walk through cobblestone streets;
- Discover cultural landmarks;

A day out from Tbilisi into Georgia's spiritual heart. You'll start in Mtskheta, the old capital and a UNESCO site, for the great Svetitskhoveli cathedral and the hilltop Jvari monastery above the meeting of two rivers. Heading north, you'll stop at the Ananuri fortress, a cluster of towers and churches beside the Aragvi with the mountains rising behind. You return to Tbilisi for the night.

- Explore UNESCO World Heritage treasures;
- See Svetitskhoveli Cathedral;
- Visit Jvari Monastery;

North into the mountains today. The Military Highway climbs through the Caucasus to Kazbegi, and the day's highlight is Gergeti Trinity — the lone church at 2,170 metres with Mount Kazbek behind it, one of Georgia's great views. You'll check in among the peaks, with the mountain air and the pace a world away from the city.

- Take in breathtaking Caucasus views;
- Experience Mount Kazbek scenery;
- Photography opportunities;
- Explore mountain landscapes;
- Check-in and overnight in Kazbegi.
A day in the high country around Kazbegi. You'll take in Gudauri, the ski town strung along the ridge with wide mountain views, and head into the Truso valley, a quiet, empty stretch of river, mineral springs and old stone towers well off the main road. It's the slow, scenic side of the Caucasus, back in Kazbegi for the night.
- Visit Gudauri ski resort town;
- Enjoy panoramic mountain views;
- Explore Stepantsminda area;
- Discover serene Truso Valley;
- Experience pristine natural environment;
- Alpine landscape photography;
- Overnight stay in Kazbegi.
A long day east into Kakheti, Georgia's main wine region. You'll taste at local wineries and get the story of the country's 8,000-year qvevri tradition, then wander Sighnaghi, the small walled "City of Love" on a ridge above the Alazani valley, with the vineyards and mountains spread out below. It's a full day on the road, but the wine country is worth the drive.
More of Kakheti today. You'll spend time in Telavi, the main town of the wine country, and visit Alaverdi — a monastery whose 11th-century cathedral is among the tallest in Georgia, standing alone on the plain with the Caucasus behind. You settle into Telavi for the night, in the heart of the vineyards.
You drive back to Tbilisi in the morning — about two and a half hours — and the rest of the day is yours. Go back to the spots you liked, hunt for souvenirs, browse the markets, or just sit down to a long Georgian lunch and do very little. A relaxed close to the trip.
